SUMMARY:Early Season Kayak Rescues - Pike Lake
DESCRIPTION:In partnership with the Pike Lake State Park\, join us – as we provide our Kayak Rescue session.\nThis is intended for people who wish to experience rescues in cooler waters. Participants MUST wear either a full wetsuit or drysuit for this class – NO EXCEPTIONS. The water temp will be below 60 degrees – you will experience multiple wet exits and may spend  3-5  minutes in the water during each rescue attempt. If needing a wetsuit – seek out a local Scuba Dive shop which will rent out 3 to 4 mm thickness suits (don’t rent anything thicker).\nThe Kayak Rescue session is designed for the more seasoned paddler. Kayak rescues are an exciting way to go outside your comfort level and understand a valuable survival tool. With the element of additional layers (wetsuit or drysuit) this adds an additional aspects to paddling – working/understanding your survival gear. Understand why these not only extend your paddle season – but increases your survivability\, should you fall into cold/cooler water.\nThis is a 4 hour session intended for those who wish to understand how to get yourself or others back into the kayak\, while on the water. Prerequisite for this class is basic knowledge about your kayak (or previous student of either the Kickstart or the Essentials classes)\, and a wet-exit ability.\nPrior to getting on the water\, we will have shoreline topics to explore with you. After the shoreline topics\, we take our training on the water with you describing\, demonstrating\, and letting you practice and refine the new found skills.\nCost – $80 per person. Class size limited to 8 participants. Please dress for the water temperatures\, have a change of clothes/towel in your car. Should you need to borrow- the use of Kayak\, paddle and PFD are included in the price (please indicate this on the registration page. There are kayaks and gear for the first 8 who require these items. Touring and Sea kayaks will be required for this class – if you are uncertain if your kayak falls under this category\, give us a call – otherwise\, we can lend you our gear.\nFor complete list of topics covered\, please refer to the Kayak Rescue skills page.\nWisconsin State Park sticker required for entry. This is a pack in/pack out State Park (no trash cans present).

SUMMARY:Kayak and camp weekend on the MKE river
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we do a couple of awesome experiences in one weekend. We will be tent camping at Waubedonia Park on both Friday and Saturday nights\, and paddling on both Saturday and Sunday on the Milwaukee river. These segments of the river have woodlands\, farm fields\, small homesteads\, scattered small islands\, and wildlife along the way. There are a few riffles in some spots to liven up the gentile flow of the current. This is normally a very quiet segment of the Milwaukee river and perfect for one to bond with nature. There is no motor boat traffic on this stretch. \nWhat’s the game plan? \nFriday afternoon- Meet at Waubedonia Park\, set up your tent in the reserved camping area (sites have been paid for). The evening meal will be on your own – we will be happy to provide some great local ideas to grab some food. Camp fire chat in the evening as we overlook the river in front of us and toast up some s’mores and get to know each other. \nSaturday morning – Wake up\, morning breakfast on your own. Head up to our launch area\, get a safety brief before getting on the water and go paddling down river. This will be about a 13 mile paddle down river. Pack for a lunch – as we will take a break on the river. \nSaturday evening – Silent Wake will provide the evening meal (chicken breast\, veggies\, bread\, and fruit). Relax and share stories of the day around the camp fire. \nSunday morning – Wake up\, Silent Wake will provide breakfast (Hot ham and rolls with doughnuts – from the local bakery as well as fruit). Pack up your camp site. Bring shuttle vehicles to launch and paddle back to camp site. Paddle down river to takeout location\, which is about 12 miles down river. Pack for a lunch – as we will take a break on the river. \nSkills needed for this trip – previous kayaking required for this trip because of the total distance. \nItems required – Tent/sleeping pad/sleeping bag/camp chair. Appropriate paddle clothing for the water and air temps/rain gear. Snacks/food/water you wish to consume beyond the meals we will provide. You may bring your own kayak/pfd/paddle or reserve this gear with us upon registration. If bringing your own kayak\, please note this is not a fiberglass friendly river. This is an alcohol free trip. \nTotal milage paddled – 25 miles \nLimited spaces available – maximum participants of 8. Detailed trip information will be provided upon registration. \nIf water conditions are unsafe for this trip (current too fast/too high) – payments will be fully refunded. \nCost – $125 per person. Must RSVP before May 8th.
