Skills assessment

Calling all paddlers who wish to become kayak instructors: If you believe you have the skills and talents to take that next step to become an instructor – I can provide a Coastal kayak Skills Assessment (L1 to L3) for you. Please plan for at least 4 hours for any of these sessions (actual times will vary depending on the Level). These sessions are designed not to teach the individual, but to assess your abilities to ensure you are Instructor ready.

Minimal clothing required: dry suit with base layer(s), or a wetsuit of at least 4/5 mm thickness. Gloves with at least 2 to 4 mm neoprene thickness, Paddle boots with at least 2 to 4 mm thickness of neoprene. Headgear – either neoprene mystery hood/hat or polypropylene hat (must have a back up carried with you and easily accessible).

Skills required: Novice to Advanced paddler (see registration form for description of these).

Additional clothing packing requirements: Must carry a change of clothing (non-cotton), to include Wool socks, mittens/gloves, winter hat, warm winter style top and bottoms, and a towel. These will be placed within a dry bag, and carried in the kayak.

Nourishment: At least a bottle of water/Gatorade/electrolyte replacement drink. High protein snacks (jerky, nuts, protein bar, etc).

Location for this training will be at Random Lake, Wi – If ice is present, an alternate location will be chosen.
