Imagine yourself paddling in another country, where the waters are a warm, clear turquoise. Gentle lapping of small waves onto the beaches lull your senses into relaxing submission. The weather is warm and inviting with tropical breezes blowing through olive and citrus tree canopies. Greek locals greet you with a kind “Yasou” passing you on the street. Find yourself at the local café downtown sipping on a drink, as you watch the boats depart the marina. Savor a historic adventure as you explore the island by scooter – investigating shrines and temples from a thousand years ago.
Join us as Kristin and I (Silent Wake) return to Poros, Greece Sept 12-19th, 2020. This will be our third time to the island and we wish to have you join us. Silent Wake will provide support for you to navigate your way from your home to Poros (and back). This will include providing our details for air travel to Athens and ground transportation to the marina, where a ferry will transport you to Poros. Ideally, we would coordinate to meet you at Athens airport and travel together to Poros, depending on your preferences and schedule.There is limited spaces available – to reserve your place, you must RSVP before January 15, 2020.
During this week, you will reside at the family-owned and operated Odyssey Apartments owned by Katerina and Rik, and managed by daughter Dora. Upon arrival in Askeli on the island of Poros, you will be warmly greeted by the staff and shown to your room. Your meals are exceptionally prepared and the menu changes daily. Enjoy the local flavors of the Mediterranean – and find out what is the secret ingredient to all Greek meals while you are there. Located about a 1/8th of a mile from the beach, the apartments provide a central location for our group. The rooms are best suited for couples, pairs or families, however it also accommodates a few solo travelers. There will be a maximum number of spaces available. Your kayaking expeditions are led by Brian, a BCU 3-star coach who operates Adventure Tourism Services in Scotland. Brian has guided numerous kayaking groups in Poros for many years and knows the local waters well. You will be delighted to paddle in the Saronic Gulf with the sea kayaks provided with this package deal. You kayak over clear waters, exploring the coastline and bays which surround this island. Several smaller islands reside around the island of Poros, where we will visit the remains of an old defense forts, a church, and islands created by volcanic eruptions a millennium ago. Additional excursions provided throughout the week and includes a trip to Hydra. Hydra is the central location where all ship captains of the Aegean Sea come to learn navigation. You can learn why there are so many donkeys on this island, walk the paths once laid for Greek warriors, visit the oldest pharmacy, and cliff dive into the local swim hole.
Additionally, on the docket, Katerina and Rik typically invite us to their family farm for an evening meal. Partake in a group Greek cooking class, take a guided tour of downtown Poros, rent an ATV and travel the local roads, and understand the importance of fruit trees in family’s yards. These are only few of the special moments you will enjoy for years with memories and stories to tell.
