Horicon Marsh exploration

September 1, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Join us as we paddle the Horicon Marsh (this will be a up and back trip – no shuttle). We will launch from the Nebraska street boat launch (parking lot) and paddle up into the marsh, explore the various cat tails, bird migrations, flora and fauna as the summer season closes out. The Horicon Marsh is the largest freshwater cattail marsh in the U.S. Lucky for us, we live so close to it. The marsh itself covers nearly 32,000 acres  – we will paddle only a small component of that.

Boat traffic is usually not a problem – however there may be a few tour boats and/or fishing boats within the main channel. There are usually just a few places to get out of the kayak and stretch – but mostly there is water and boggy ‘islands’. Plan to be on the water for at least 4 hours, bring food and water – as we can stop and take a break on the water. Be sure to bring a camera, as there should be abundant wildlife to sneak up upon.

Take the time after the paddle to check out the Horicon marsh visitors center (closes at 5 PM) Located at  7725 Highway 28, Horicon, WI

This trip is suitable for beginner paddlers who know how to handle a kayak and are willing to paddle for at least 4 hours (this is not intended to be a float).

Max group size 10. Kayaks and gear included in the price – eight yaks available upon request.

Cost $65 for this trip.
